Show Lions Hear Japanese Account At Luncheon Meeting The life, culture and attitude of the Japanese people towards Americans was discussed at the regular noon luncheon of the Lions Club by Miss Jean Pug-mire, Pug-mire, who spent considerable time in that country. Miss Pugmire is now associated associat-ed with the College of Southern Utah is a faculty member in the department of education. She pointed out the fact that in some quarters of Japan the Americans were not so well thought of. She tells of the un-. favorable response of the Japanese Japan-ese at the time the Emporer was protographed with Gen. Douglas MacArthur when the surrender agreement was signed. She explained ex-plained that the Japanese people felt "belittled" because MaeAr-ther MaeAr-ther wore an open collar shirt in the photograph. In addition she explained the various methods of livelihood for the Japanese and told of the day to day struggle that they have and compared the standard of ,'iving of the Japanese and the Americans. Dr. Reed W. Farnsworth, chairman chair-man of the club's annual Christmas Christ-mas Party, also told members of plans being made for that event which will be staged at Hotel El Es'calante on Monday evening, Doc 26. Final plans will be completed this week he told the club members. An Initiative prize instigated to ho.'p attendance at the club and called the "attendance prize" was won Monday by Morris Roberts. The prize is given each week, it Is understood. |
