Show Iron County School Board Meeting Considers Matters of Full Agenda At a lengthy meeting Monday the Board of Education of the Iron County School District transferred trans-ferred money from the district's reserve building fund to pay construction costs' of the year, discussed building and alteration needs in the district, heard a delegation del-egation on driver training, planned plan-ned to remove two buildings adjacent ad-jacent to the school campus to facilitate use of the athletic field, and handled a long list of routine business matters. At the beginning of the day the board members met for a public hearing on a proposal to transfer trans-fer building funds. However, no one appeared to support or protest pro-test the move, so the board went Into regular meeting and approved approv-ed the transfer. The money will be used to meet building costs that have been Incurred during the year and for the purchase of property adjacent to the North Elementary school. Better Facilities Asked A request for additional facilities facili-ties at the Cedar City high school was made when Principal Pratt M. Bothers, and Glen Jackson, football coach, met with the board to discus's the matter. They pointed out the need for additional addition-al space in the physical education educa-tion department, in the mechanic mechan-ic arts department, and also the need for a larger band room. Following this discussion, Ian-thus Ian-thus Wright, superintendent, and Dr. J. S. Prestwlch, board member, mem-ber, were requested to make a survey of building needs, not only in the high school, but throughout the district, and report re-port at the next regular meeting of the board. Phone Services Approved Mr. Wright was also requested to Investigate the cost of rewiring rewir-ing the Kanarrivllle and Para-gonah Para-gonah school buildings, in order that steps may be taken to have the work done during the summer sum-mer months of 195G. Authorization Authoriza-tion was also given for the installation in-stallation of telephones In these two schools, the only ones in the district that do not have telephone tele-phone service at the present time. The board began a study of the problem of providing an access ac-cess path between the Cedar High School campus and the athletic field. At the present time students stu-dents must walk to the field along Center Street, one of the most heavily used streets of the city, and the board plans to provide pro-vide an approach to the field by ' the removal of two buildings in the block betwoen the campiif and the field. The school own? the two buildings and the land and it is planned to move these and clear the way for easy nc- coss. The students would still , have to cross a street, but one on which there Is vry little travel, r and it would be necessary merely f to cross it. ' The two buildings may be of- I forod for sale, or a decision may be reached to move the homes to other property and offer them for I I rent. j Delegation Appears l A delegation from the Cedar 5' Junior High School Parent-Teach-j ers Association, composed of LU-lian LU-lian Grimshaw, Barbara Bryant ' and Zona Wood, met with the board and requested an expansion expan-sion o! the driver training pro- gram, so that ill students may be given this training before they reach their 16th birthday. It was pointed out that this type of training Is especially expensive since each teacher can handle only four or five students at a time. However, the board members mem-bers agreed to make a thorough study of the request after which final action will be taken. Prof. Roy L. Halversen, head of the instrumental music department depart-ment of Colloge of Southern Utah, who also handles stringed Instrument In-strument training In the public schools, reported that 50 youngsters young-sters below junior high school level are now participating in the program and that the program Is meeting with excellent success.
