Show Lighting Rites Initiated On Hill Top Campus : The College of Southern Utah campus took on a festive Christmas Christ-mas atomsphere when a 50-foot ' pine tree was decorated with cojored lights by the Associated students. A gathering of over a hundred hun-dred students were on hand for the tree-lighting ritual in the early evening under the direction of studentbody officers, Kugene Holman, president; Marie Adams, vice president; and Claudia Hir-schi, Hir-schi, secretary. Coach Bruce Osborne Os-borne directed decorating of the large tree situated between Old Main and the new Library-Auditorium building. Taul Felt, director of the LDS Institute of Religion, told of the spirit of Christmas and how the customary stocking to be filled : on Christmas Eve came to le an annual joy for children. Professor Emeritus WiUiam II. Manning led the members of the! studentbody in Yuletide carols after the lights were strung and turned on. Complimenting the students on their leadership and thoughtful-ness, thoughtful-ness, Dr. Hoyden C. Draithwaite, director, urged that the students adopt the event as a tradition and do it each year during the Christmas season. Chad Thorderson, student chairman of advertising, played carols over the campus loud; speaking unit which wilj continue, j through the seasonal festivities. |
