Show Social Security Law On Domestic Servants Explained "We have been receiving a large number of inquiries about the 'hows' and whens" of reporting re-porting household employees for social security purposes," says Kesler T. Powell, manager of the Provo district office of the Social Security Administration. "Most of these inquiries indicate indi-cate that the erflployers of domestic do-mestic help do not understand the length of time nor the amount of money that must be paid such a worker before it is necessary to report her for social security purposes," says Mr. Powell. Pow-ell. If your household or domestic employee is working for you regularly reg-ularly and that means on at least part of 24 days in each three-month calendar quarter, and is being paid cash wages of $50.00 or more during those quarters, quar-ters, she is now covered by social so-cial security and is building up the same sort of insurance protection pro-tection that business and store workers have had for the past 16 years. Record Needed All that the employers of a domestic or household worker need to do is to keep a simple record rec-ord of how many days the employee em-ployee works and how much in cash wages are paid her. Then at the end of each calendar quarter, enter her name, her social security securi-ty number and the amount of cash wages on a tax form, enclose en-close a check for the tax and mail it to the Bureau of Internal Inter-nal Revenue at Salt Lake City. The employee pays 2 and her employer pays 27c. Forms for reporting re-porting domestic employment can be obtained from the Bureau of Internal Revenue, or the Social Security Administration will be glad to furnish you with a booklet book-let called , "Do You Have a Maid?" which contains a postcard post-card form to be used in requesting request-ing the tax form from the Bureau Bur-eau of Internal Revenue. All taxes under social security are payable directly to that bureau. The social security representative representa-tive will be in Cedar City on Tuesday, Mar. 16, 1954. He will , be at the Utah State Employment Service from 9 a. m. to 3 p. m. |
