Show Janet Wasden Places First in Elks' Worthy Student Test nrlr- WT-,MM,,.n.,,. V , b 1 . JANET WASDEN : ' . :,. . . - y- HELEN HARRIS Miss Janet Wasden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newel Wasden of Cedar City, this week was named first place winner in the Cedar City Elks Lodge Worthy Student Scholarship contest, and will be entered in the state-wide competition for state honors. Miss Helen Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Harris of Cedar City, placed second in the local contest and will also be entered in the slate competition. In addition ad-dition Miss Wasden received a 50 cash award for use at the school of her choosing, and Miss Horris received a $25 award. Two ether awards were made, Mrs. Marva Ann Brown of Richfield Rich-field High School winning a $15 third prize, and Dix Howell, of South Sev.ier High School from j Monroe, winning a $10 fourth prize. Ten students competed in .the local contest, five from Cedar Ce-dar City, one from Panguitch, 1 and two each from Richfield and Monroe. Ralph Adams, secretary of the local lodge and chairman of the Worthy Student program, announces an-nounces that judging in the contest con-test was done by a committee of five lodge members, assisted by Dr. Daryl Chase, director of College Col-lege of Southern Utah. The club members include Mr. Adams, Robert Ro-bert Loer, John Quinn, Clyde Hig-bee Hig-bee and Lee Empey. Prizes and cash awards will be given to each of the contestants. |
