Show Homestead, Farm Conference Held For Residents of Escalante Valley With farming becoming more stabilized in the area west of Cedar City, known as Escalante valley, a Home and Farmstead planning conference was held Wednesday in the Beryl school house for the more than 100 families now living in the valley. Specialists from the Utah State Agricultural college extension service were on hand for the conference to help the valley families in planning a home and farmstead building program. Many residents of the valley had expressed the feeling that a permanent per-manent building program was needed to include both homes and farms. The conference got under way in the morning with a tour of a homesite and farm, where permanent per-manent buildings had already been started. The tour was followed fol-lowed by a workshop session. Following a noon luncheon, the men and women attended separate meetings. The women's meeting centered on "Planning More Liveable Farm Homes", and the men discussing farm building build-ing programs. These meetings were followed by an open question and answer period. An evening meeting featured fea-tured a talk on "Doing Things the Easy Way", which was illustrated illus-trated witth films. The full day program was ar ranged by Stephen Brower, coun-ty. coun-ty. agricultural agent, and Mrs. Adele Sevy Decker, home demonstration dem-onstration agent following a request re-quest from the people in the valley asking for this type of assistance. |
