Show Fathers and Sons Banquet Attracts Many Over 500 fathers and sons ot the Parowan stake gathered in the Parowan First-Second ward chapel and banquet room Monday Mon-day evening for the annual Fathers Fath-ers and Sons banquet, put over by the Boy Scout organization in the stake. The assembled group also was told of the pr--ress. made in scouting in the stake during the past year, with its organization into a new Brian Head district. Such a large group had to be served In relays and while one group was eating the rest w as being entertained by a program, picture show and a court of honor. hon-or. The picture shown was about the Boy Scout Jamboree last summer at Valley Forge, Pa. The banquet was served by Y.M.M.I.A personnel and mothers of the stake with Millard Halter-man Halter-man as chairman of the entire affair. The program was in direct di-rect charge of st-.ke M.I.A. officers offi-cers with Mr.rlo Topham at the head. The court of honor was conducted by Lynn Mortensen, advancement chairman of the Brian Head district. Special guests were Albert Al-bertson, Al-bertson, Cedar CUy, vice president presi-dent of the Utah Parks Council, who awarded advancement and merit badges to a large number of boys, and Charles I. Sampson, Provo, an officer of the National Parks Council headquarters. Both gave talks on scouting during the evening. The newly organized Brian Head district has made rapid strides in scouting during the past winter it was reported. Every ward in the district has registered scout troops, with 82 registered scouts in the district compared with 42 last year. The assessment of $600 levied against the district to help maintain the National Parks Council has been paid, with all other fees. This has made the local council coun-cil eligible to receive a gold star award at a special council meeting meet-ing to be held in Provo March 24. Ivan Decker, district chair-man chair-man is slated to go to the meet- iner to receive the award. The boy scout troops of the stake will share in the proceeds of Monday night's affair in proportion pro-portion to the tickets sold in their own wards, after expenses are paid. This money will be retained for the troop's own use. |
