Show Farmers-Stockmen Meet on Rain Making Issue Meetings of farmers and stockmen stock-men have been going forward this week to determine if nine southern Utah counties will get together to participate in one of the largest rain-making experiment experi-ment projects in the United States to increase the water sup ply of a "very drv southern Utah". Estimated cost of the project, is close to $73,000 with the work planned by the Water Resources Development Corp., Pasadena, Calif. Meetings have been going forward in the nine county area to determine if each county will participate on an assessed cost, which has already been set up. A meeting is scheduled this evening for this purpose. A similar sim-ilar meeting last night in Parowan, Paro-wan, found the stockmen and farmers there willing to try the experiment, and work has already al-ready been started to finance the plan. Iron county's assessed cost for the project is $10,721. An Iron county committee, set up to handle han-dle the plan in the county includes in-cludes William L. Jones, representing repre-senting the Farm Bureau; Stephen Steph-en Brower, county agent; Alex Williams, sheepmen; E. Ray Lyman, Ly-man, cattlemen; Jess Guymon, county commissioners, and A. C. Christensen, the west end of the county. One-third of the county's quota quo-ta must be raised by Saturday night, if the county participates in the plan. Other counties in the plan are: Beaver, S5.220; Garfield. Gar-field. S3.786; Juab, S7SG4; Millard, Mil-lard, S13.0U; Piute, S2493; San pete, $14,701; Sevier, S14.1S4, and Wayne, S20G7. |
