Show Professor at B A C Reports on Vocational Confab Tremendous strides in the field of vocational training have been made throughout the west, reports re-ports C. B. Cooley, professor of building trades at the Branch Agricultural college, who returned re-turned last week end from a western states vocational conference con-ference in San Francisco. Mr. Cooley, who is local director direc-tor of vocational education, reported re-ported that visits to vocational institutions in the San Francisco Francis-co area revealed that some of them have greater enrollment for night classes than the regular day time class enrollment. This he said is due largely to the fact that organized labor has sponsored spon-sored enrollment of vocation classes of all apprentices, and also to the fact that old and young have recognized the importance im-portance of specialized training to all industrial employees. Mr. Cooley, who was one of six delegates from Utah to attend , the conference, reported that considerable con-siderable time was spent in discussions dis-cussions of civilian defense training In various vocational fields. "The current manpower situation with many young men entering military service upon I completion of high school, which , will be accelerated when the 18-. 18-. year-old draft becomes effective", he said, "will delay the expansion expan-sion of vocational training in the schools. However, it is expected i that as these young men come out of service the need for vocational voca-tional training facilities will be greatly Increased, and enroll-'ment enroll-'ment in these fields should increase in-crease tremendously." |
