Show JPSE students study conservation , r, MM w x I ; "' : MM: ' ) The fifth graders at J.P. Stewart Elementary learned conservation, practiced conservation, and reaped the rewards of their efforts this spring. The students began last fall collecting col-lecting and recycling aluminum cans and newspapers. With the help of a dedicated mother, Mrs. Carol Smedley, who made numerous trips to the recycling center, the students earned well over $200. Progress was charted throughout the year on a large thermometer that was placed in the fifth grade hall. The fifth grade teachers told the students that they could choose what they wanted to do with the money they garnered. The students were hopeful they might earn enough money to take an extra field trip this spring. The field trip was earned and also several flats of flowers were purchased pur-chased to beautify the front of the school. Many of the students have formed a lifetime habit of recycling and one girl stated, "I could never throw an aluminum can into the garbage ever again."
