Show Healthy People 2000 in business FARMINGTON Healthy People 2(MX) has been established to improve the health of all Americans through an emphasis on the prevention, preven-tion, not just the treatment, of health problems over the next decade. A broad-based initiative to reduce preventable death, disease and disability was discussed at the Davis County Board of Health board meeting. Healthy People 2000 is not intended in-tended as a statement of federal standards or requirements. The project is the product of a national effort, involving 22 expert working groups, a consortium that has grown to include almost 300 national organizations and all the state health departments, and the Institute In-stitute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, which helped the U.S. Public Health Service to manage the consortium. It convened regional and national hearings, and received testimony from more than 750 individuals and organizations. After extensive public pub-lic review and comment, involving more than 10,000 people, the objectives objec-tives were revised and refined and are now available. The wide range of public and private organizations involved in the development of the health objectives ob-jectives is evidence of growing social commitment and accountability accoun-tability for health. In addition to federal agencies, nearly all state health departments, a large number of public health experts, ex-perts, and many concerned citizens have participated in the development de-velopment process, as well as over 300 national organizations representing repre-senting the corporate, professional and voluntary sectors. Because of the broad scope of objectives, ob-jectives, sustained support over the next decade from such a diverse base will be critical for their achievement.
