Show Harmer is Annapolis grad Christopher L. Harmer, son of John and Carolyn Harmer of Bountiful, Boun-tiful, and graduate of Woods Cross High School, has graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., with a bachelor of science degree in history. He also received his commission as an offi- cer in the U.S. Navy. Harmer served a mission to Hamburg, Germany, before completing com-pleting his studies at Annapolis, and was one of four midshipman in the first group of returned missionaries to be readmitted to the Naval Academy, Acad-emy, following religious service. All four have since completed their USNA studies and have been commissioned com-missioned as officers. . Ensign Harmer is presently in Germany, and will report to Pen-sacola, Pen-sacola, Fla., where he will pursue a master's degree in international relations re-lations and enter the naval flight school. Ensign Harmer was one of 923 graduates of the USNA Class of 91. Requirements for graduation from the Academy are among the stiffest in the nation and demand strict academic and military discipline. Speaker at the graduation ceremony, held at the Navy-Marine Stadium, was Gen. Norman Schwartzkopf, who praised the joint military effort during Desert Storm and honored those who were willing will-ing to put their lives on the line defending not only the U.S. Constitution Con-stitution but the right to freedom. He noted that it was the first time in Naval Academy history that an Army general had been invited to speak at a Navy commencement, and that it was a great personal honor for him to be invited. |
