Show MJHS teacher s poster reaps praise from the forest service Bv JAMS STUART i Staff Writer BOUNTIFUL Lester Lee, an art teacher at Millcreck Junior High School, received an Outstanding Achievement award from the USDA Forest Service. I Lee received the award for his unique design of a poster urging people to 'keep our earth beautiful.' The I elegant design of an owl with a single tear slipping from his eye, poignantly emphasizes that 'pollution is a crying shame.' , The outstanding achievement award is presented for the Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl's Environmental Poster Contest, sponsored by the Utah Associated Garden Clubs, the National Council of State Garden Clubs, the USDA Forest Service and the Utah State Forester. Lee certainly practices what he preachers. From September to December, Lee is flooded with poster contests. The art teacher encourages students to enter their work in the competitions, and when there is an adult category, he enters. Last year, Lee earned awards on a regional, state and national level in the same contest. "This is the second year I have won," explained Lee. Following in his teacher's footsteps, Mickey Mills also joined this year in his age group. "Mickey won on the local and state level," Lee proudly stated. Lee and Miickey received achievement awards, and in keeping with the theme of the contest, both winners were given seedling trees to plant. |
