Show 1990-91. BHS cheerleaders had a lot to cheer about By KRISTINE BARNETT Supporting the student body by cheering at games, planning pep rallies, and competing were aLI a pan of the cheerleaders role this year at Bountiful High School. The cheerleaders supported the athletic teams and student body spirit throughout the year. This included in-cluded girls' and boys basketball, wrestling, girls' volleyball, boys' soccer, and baseball state tournaments, tour-naments, and a football state championship. cham-pionship. The BHS cheerleaders were awarded five first place trophies at various competitions this year. They also received numerous other awards and recognitions. Last summer at the University of Utah Cheerleading Camp the squad began its successful season. They received first place in the sideline division and many blue and gold ribbons throughout the week. Their enthusiasm stole a "Spirit U" award. At state competition on Nov. 10, the Braves received three trophies. They were the first squad to ever receive first place in dance at this competition. Second place in their routine and first place in crowd participation par-ticipation added two more trophies. Nov. 9 was state individual competition. com-petition. Lori Alldredge, Lisa Buehner, Sarah Covey and Sherina Hadley from BHS competed. Sarah Covey placed third in state and qualified for national competition. Lisa and Sherina also qualified. Next, the Braves competed at the Rocky Mountain Regional Competition Com-petition at Alta High School on Nov. 24. Here the Braves took first in their routine. The setting of their next victory was Davis High School on Dec. 1. A first place trophy again found its way into the Braves' possession for their routine. They also placed second se-cond in their dance. Each of these competitions qualified the cheerleaders for different national competitions. The Braves chose to attend the Cheerleaders of America National Competition in Jacksonville, Fla. On March 23 they competed against many other nationally ranked squads. They received eleventh in their routine and sUth in dance. The cheerleaders would like to thank their coaches, Tim Herzer and Jeff Parkin. They would also like to thank their advisor, Sue Baylis, for all her time and help. |
