Show Ski Association awards scholarships The Utah Ski Association announced an-nounced today the winners of two scholarships available to Utah, college-bound high school seniors. Joni Hemond of Orem High School was awarded the Ski Utah Scholarship, which will provide $2,500 toward furthering her education edu-cation at Boston College. Hemond will graduate with a 4.0 average and is a Gasson Scholar at Boston College, Col-lege, which ranks her in the top one percent of the incoming freshmen class. She will study biology in preparation for medical school. Shane Petersen of Cottonwood High School is the recipient of the Ski Utah Craig Badami Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship, which grants $1,000, was established estab-lished in 1990 in memory of Craig Badami, marketing vice president of Park City Ski area and a strong supporter of Utah skiing and international inter-national ski racing. Petersen will attend at-tend the University of Utah majoring major-ing in biologychemistry with an emphasis on sports medicine. "We are very proud to be investing in-vesting in the future of Utah's young people," said Randy Montgomery, Mon-tgomery, executive director of the Utah Ski Association. "We recognize recog-nize their importance to Utah's future and appreciate the opportunity opportuni-ty of assisting them meet their aca- demic and professional goals," added Montgomery. Selection for both the Ski Utah scholarship was based on leadership, leader-ship, character and extracurricular achievement, financial need and career ca-reer goals. The Ski Utah Craig Badami Memorial Scholarship differs in that its recipient must be pursuing a career in a ski-related industry. "Over 50 outstanding students applied for the scholarships," said Montgomery. "We look forward to assisting other Utah students in the future with their college expenses," concluded Montgomery. |
