Show Local Rotary Clubs give donations to orphanage By MARK EDDINGTON StaFf Writer TAYLORS VILLE Bountiful and Ccnterville Rotarians have joined other Rotary clubs in Utah District 542 to donate a government surplus bus to an orphanage in Empalme, Mexico. Rotary clubs from across the Wasatch Front contributed con-tributed towards purchasing the 1972 International bus which will be used by the Casa Hogar Rancho Del Ninos Orphanage for transportation. The bus, laden with clothes and school supplies donated do-nated by the Murray, Brigham City and Valley West Rotarians, left Taylorsville Monday and is expected to arrive in Enpalme on Wednedsday. Bob Davis, president presi-dent of the Brigham City club; and Doug Bennion, president of Valley West, are driving the bus the 1,525 miles to the small town. Davis, who owns an auto dealership in Brigham City, reupholstered the seats and did a thorough mechanical checkup on the 24 passenger bus, which he said is in good repair. The Catholic orphanage is located on the west coast of Mexico and provides children under 18 with food, clothing and a place to sleep. "The children are very poor and yet, are such beautiful beau-tiful kids, said Gordon Putnam, who co-chairs what has become a yearly safari for the Murray chapter. Members of the Murray club have sent food and supplies sup-plies to the orphanage for 15 years. The orphanage is one of several endeavors for the Murray club, which supports other charities in the area, Putnam said. International projects are only one area Rotarians give service to. Others are club service, community and vocational service. |
