Show Water system purchased By MARK EDDINGTON Staff Writer WOODS CROSS The City Council has approved purchase of a $65,000 telemetry water control system to help monitor the water levels on the two reservoirs and three pumps in Woods Cross. The system, manufactured by Remote Control Systems Inc. of Salt Lake City, will allow public works officials to monitor and control con-trol pumping times, and the amount of water flowing out of wells and reservoirs from City Hall, rather than having to go out and physically check them as has been the case in the past. "We have needed a system to detect de-tect problems with the city water supply for some time," said public works director Scott Anderson. 'If the water is too high or low in our reservoirs, for example, this system has the capability of calling our crewswhoever is on dutyto alert them to the problem.' Each well and reservoir will have a 24 by 24 foot panel to monitor flow. Signals will be sent electronically elec-tronically to another panel the size of a filing cabinet in City HalL From there, signals will be transmitted into a computer system and a computer will print out flows, usage and problem areas, according to Scott Anderson. Besides monitoring and controlling controll-ing water flow, the system will allow officials to monitor water pressure and determine the electrical elec-trical cost for each water pump. Woods Cross currently spends between $35,000 and $40,000 a year for electricity to pump water from each well. One of the system's biggest advantages, Anderson said, is that monitoring the flow will cut down on the hours of pump operation. opera-tion. "This could help cut cost of the system in the long run, because it will help us pump water more efficiently effi-ciently during off-peak usage hours, which means the city will pay a lower electric rate," Anderson explained. ex-plained. Installation of the system should be completed in five months, he said. |
