Show I County gymnasts excel North Davis claims meet title By G.BRETT HART Sports Editor WEST J O R -DAN Kaysville's Jamie Carlisle led her North Davis Gymnastics, level 8 team to its first ever team ! victory by winning the all-around competition Saturday at the Bailey's Invitational gymnastics meet held at West Jordan High School. Competition featured 13 teams I including teams from Phoenix, Ariz, and Idaho Falls, Idaho. Level 8 competition is divided into three age divisions: 9-11, 12-14 and 15 and over. Carlisle won the overall competition competi-tion in the 12-14 year old division with a score of 35.6. The Kaysville tumbler claimed first place in the vault, second in the bars and beam and fourth in the floor exercise. I Gwen Oldham of the Arizona 1 Aerials followed in second with a 1 score of 34.4. Layton's Jenny Potter j took third, logging a point total of 34.38. Also a member of North Davis Gymnastics, Potter took second se-cond place in the floor exercise, third on the beam and fifth on bars. North Davis teammate Wendy : Wall finished fourth in the all-around all-around scoring 34.3. Wall took second se-cond in the vault, third on bars and sixth in the floor exercise. Logan's Holly Hansen took fifth with a score of 33.75 and Riki Cox of the Arizona Aerials took sixth in the all-arounds with 33.05. Local gymnasts also placed in the level 8, 9-11 competition. Chelsa Bastian of USA Gymnastics in Woods Cross took fourth place in the all-around rankings after placing plac-ing first on the beam and third on the floor. North Davis Christy Smith placed plac-ed sixth with a score of 33.0 after taking second on the bars and sixth on the beam. In the level 8, 15 and over, USA's Kristen Christensen took third, scoring 32.35. Christensen claimed first place honors on the beam. She also took third in the vault and floor exercises and fifth on the bars. Level 8 team scoring went as follows: North Davis Gymnastics finished first in the team rankings with 104.5 followed by the Arizona Aerials with 102.1. Third place went to Rocky Mountain Gymnastics of Salt Lake City with 101.85. USA Gymnastics finished in fourth with 100.25 followed by Hunt's Gymnastics of Midvale and Wasatch Gymnastics of Logan who earned 98.75 and 98.0 points, respectively. The Bailey's Invitational is one of the final preparatory meets before the state championships scheduled for March 29-30 at B YU. Of the 43, level 8 gymnasts in the state of Utah, seven of them train at North Davis Gymnastics in Layton. "I was pleased with how well we did," North Davis coach Keith Potter said. "This is the first time we've take first in the team competition at one of these meets. We've finished second se-cond a number of times, however. "We feel like we've got a good shot at doing well in the state meet if we can avoid injuries." 4 I A I , 1 j I .
