The Rams went on the road last week and were defeated by Region 12 foes Gunnison and North Sevier. .Burgoyne and stolk accorded BB honors CEDAR CITY A pair of Southern Utah State College women basketball players have grabbed a fistful of honors for their play during the just completed season. Paula Burgoyne, who closed out the season with what Coach Joy Peterson calls a "super display of basketball," has been named last week's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player of the week. Burgoyne has also been selected as a member of the NAIA District Seven all-academic team. Burgoyne along with teammate Lisa Stolk, was named this week to the honorable mention all-NAIA District Seven regular team. "We think that Paula came on extremely strong the last ten days of the season, and we are just tickled that she has been recognized for that contribution," Peterson says. "She and Lisa have been our major scoring and rebounding threats for most of the season, and it's good to see them both recognized." Paula is a 6-0 sophomore center from Cedar City. Lisa is a 6-0 sophomore forward from Parowan. Burgoyne earned her RMAC player of the week. She scored 25 points and collared 14 rebounds at Pocatello, Idaho, against division I Idaho State. Then, in conference games, she scored 32 points against Mesa and 31 against Western State in home games. Her rebound totals were even against Mesa and an impressive 19 against Western State. Paula is an elementary education major at SUSC, where she carries a 3.95 grade point average (4.0 is A). She has also been a member of two SUSC volleyball teams which have advanced to the NAIA national tournament. Burgoyne and Stolk finished one-two in both scoring and rebounding. Paula averaged 17.5 points and 10.8 rebounds for the season. Lisa was close behind in both categories with a scoring average of 14.9 points and an average harvest of missed shots of 8.4 per game. "These two girls will both be back next year, and should be even stronger with a year of experience," Peterson says. "They formed the heart of our inside game, and we are expecting big things again next year." Paula is the daughter of Paul and Marilyn Burgoyne. Cedar City. Lisa is the daughter of Gale and Maxine Stolk, Parowan. She is majoring in physical education at SUSC. Lisa was also a member of this year's national tournament volleyball team, and she is expected to be a member of the Thunderbird Softball team this - spring. |
