Show Beavers chew Cowboys, nip MH MILFORD The scrappy Beaver Beavers won two big Region 12 games last week, including a 52-45 victory over in-county rival Milford and a 68-58 chewing of the Kanab Cowboys. The two wins left Beaver with an 8-4 region record and in good shape going into this weekend's Region 12 round robin tournament at Panguitch. "It was a pretty tough ballgame," stated Beaver coach Calvin Albrecht. "Milford went into a man-to-man and it kind of stymied us. Milford's big. We had a hard time getting inside." The game was fairly close first h half, but the Tigers improved considerably in the second stanza, hitting 52 percent of their shots. MHS was 18-45 from the floor for the game for 40 percent. The Tigers were led by Blair Coon with 16 p points. John Dotson added 11 and was the only Tiger besides Coon in double figures. Darryl Moody snatched ten rebounds, and Dotson grabbed eight boards. As a team, Milford grabbed 28 rebounds and shot 9-19 from the charity stripe for a cold 47 percent. "Our foul shooting hurt us," Barnes emphasized. bench and sparked the Beavers. The Beaver big man grabbed 18 rebounds. Scott Robertson led Kanab with 18 points. throughout, though Beaver did lead by more than 11 in the second half before the Tigers closed the gap near the end. Milford led 10-9 at the end of the first period. The Tiger's shooting touch then iced up, and Beaver was up 22-16 at the intermission. Beaver pulled out to a 38-27 38-27 third-quarter lead and went on to win by seven. "We played in spurts," said Kevin Barnes, Milford coach. "The second quarter really hurt us. We'd play well and come back on them, and then let up." Milford shot a cool 30 percent in the nODDie Eyre lea tne Beaver scoring attack with 14. Chris Branvall hit 11 points, and Donnie Roberts chipped in with 10. Nine of Branvall's points came in the fourth quarter as he came off the Beaver pulled out to an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed from that point. The Beavers led by nine at the half and led 48-44 at the end of three. |
