Show Record praise given to recent Board decision We at the Iron County ttecora, anu we Deneve a large number of citizens in Iron County, heartily agree with the decision fast week of the Iron County School Board concerning a solution to the overcrowding problem at Cedar High School. The decision is really two part, with both commendable and, we believe, in the best good of students throughout the County. First, the Board agreed to take no immediate action, but to appoint a citizens committee to study all the possible alternatives. Second, it decided to work with the existing facilities at CHS, and make them adequate for at least another year. We agree with those decisions and, once again, we urge eveyone involved to seriously look at making the current building do for more than just one year but until the County can economically afford another, which is at least several years down the road. We think the overcrowding problem can be alleviated. Certainly a few more classrooms could be added if necessary. Also, we think the Board is right in seriously looking at a longer day or a split session. We think this could solve the problem for several years. A combination of several creative ideas could certainly keep the students all in the high school, and we feel that Cedar High School has too much to offer to hurriedly change it. A new building is probably going to need to be built sometime. It may be the solution down the road several years, but, with the economy the way it is now, it certainly isn't the answer now. And, if it is the solution in a few years, we think the Board i should certainly be extremely frugal in its proposal. J yVfe think this creative thinking will solve the immediate problem, and we believe that the long- j range problems can only be solved after careful study and planning. j Once again, we repeat, schools, above all else, are the future of Iron County. The decision must be j the right one. t |
