The . newspaper took awards in six of thirteen categories. Record receives several awards ST. GEORGE - The Record received a number of awards and Publisher Michael Stansfield was named to the Utah Press Association board of directors last weekend at the association's convention here. The Record received awards in 6 of 13 categories. There were 52 weeklies in the State eligible for the awards, with the Record being classified in Division III, among the largest papers. The awards were second place in general excellence in typography, honorable mention in community service, third place for the best sports section, third place for the best community section, third place for the best feature and third place for the best in-house in-house promotion. "We're pleased with our showing," said Stansfield, in discussing the awards, "especially those in typography and community service." The typography award is given for the best physical look of the paper, including layout and type styles. The community service award was one of only three given, with the Record being honored for its coverage and editorial stance on the proposed MX missile system. "This certainly does not make us the top newspaper in the State," added Editor Bruce Lee, "but it does put us in the running and shows a lot of improvement." |
