Adams John Reich Howard Jensen New directors named for Utah Shakespearean festival CEDAR CITY Three guest directors and one local director have been named to produce the 1982 Utah Shakspearean Festival season. John Reich, who has gained world-wide distinction for his regional theatre direction, will stage "As You Like It," which opens the July 15 through August 28 production season. Jim Edmondson, a veteran director with the Oregon Shakespearean Festival at Ashland, will direct "Romeo and Juliet," while Howard Jensen, head of the Acting and Directing Program at Indiana University," returns to continue his supervision of the historical trilogy recounting the life of Henry V. This summer's production of "Henry IV, Part II" will continue the series begun last year. Fred Adams, producing director of the Festival, will oversee an expanded matinee production of "The Monarchs of England," featuring this year the reign of James I . Reich left Chicago nine years ago after serving 15 years as head of the Goodman Professional Theatre and its School of York as a dramatic writer for CBS talevision, and pursued a simultaneous career in directing and, teaching at Columbia University. He served on the executive board of the Theatre Communication Group as well as on advisory boards for the Illinois Arts Council and the State Department. Since leaving Chicago he has directed in 11 states, including productions for Neiman Marcus at the Dallas Theatre Center, the Asolo Theatre in Florida, the Juilliard Theatre in . New York's Lincoln Center and the Cleveland Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival. Most recently he produced "A Perfect . Gentleman" and "The Good Person of Sechwan" for the Missouri Repertory Theatre. Edmondson is presently serving as an actor and director with the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria, Calif, as well as directing for the Oregon Shakespearean Festival. He has performed with the Alley Theatre, Houston, the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and has worked six seasons as an actor Festival. For the Oregon Shakespeare Festival he has directed "Ring Around the Moon," "A Taste of Honey," "Much Ado About Nothing," "Romeo and Juliet," "Twelfth Night" and "The Importance of Being Earnest." He is currently a member of the ACT Theatre Company, where he is directing "Black Comedy" and "The Browning Version" and acting in the Plays in Progress series as well as teaching in the Conservatory. Howard Jensen, the only director ever contracted by the Festival for three consecutive years, staged a standing room only production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" last winter at Indiana University, where in addition to teaching he has directed "Hedda Gabler" and Buried Child" during the past two years. A long standing Utah Shakespearean favorite, Jensen has directed several outstanding productions for the Festival, including "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," "Julius season's "Henry IV, Part I." Jensen will complete the historical trilogy in 1983 with his production of "Henry V." In addition to directing he has acted in more than 70 roles since 1961, when he began his theatre career at Southern Utah State College, acting at the Festival during its first, second and fourth seasons. Fred. C. Adams, founding and producing Director for the Festival's entire 21 years, is also a professor in the SUSC Theatre Department, where during the last year he directed "The Royal Family" and "Godspell." Adams works with all aspects of Festival productions, particularly with the Endowment Funding. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the National University resident Theatre Association and is a member of the Utah Arts Council Board. During the spring he will oversee a group of 50 theatre students as they travel to London for a two weeks' tour of theatre performances and historical background. and director with the Colorado Shakespeare Caesar" and "King Lear" as well as last Drama. While at the Goodman Theatre, he produced and-or directed over 250 major plays, studio plays and children's plays. He was rn in Vienna, Austria, ind was the first student o graduate from Max Reinhardt's famous school of the theatre.
