Show Free cancer test offered to Iron County residents Although the cause of colon-rectal cancer, like that of most cancers, is unknown, two out of three patients can be saved if the disease if found early and treated promptly. And such a chance for early detection and treatment is being offered of-fered Iron County residents next weekend by the Medicine Shoppe, 97 W. Center Street, Cedar City. A free take-home test kit, with instructions will be given to individuals for preparation in the privacy of their own home by The Medicine Shoppe. After completion of the test, it can be mailed directly to the AMC Cancer Research Center and Hospital for a free analysis and results. Those persons who test positively will be sent a second free test kit for retesting and encouraged to visit their family physician. The primary goal of this large-scale screening program called, "Stop Cancer. Before It Stops You," is to intercept cancer early enough to increase the effectiveness ef-fectiveness of the available treatments for colon-rectal cancer. Vincent Lagerborg, AMC head pathologist, has encouraged people over 40 years of age to take advantage of this free test offered during this three-day screening. "Our goal is to distribute as many take-home test kits as there are potential colon-rectal cancer victims, some 120,000," he said. |
