Show Insurance deadline near Winter wheat and barley farmers in Utah and Southern Idaho still have an additional month to sign up for federal crop insurance, according to Federal Crop Insurance Corporation regional director O. D. Christiansen. Christiansen said the Corporation has extended its closing dates for insurance in-surance on these crops from Sept. 30 to Oct. 30 in Utah and Southern Idaho (south of Idaho County). Coun-ty). "The rapid changes experienced by FCIC as a result of its expanded crop insurance efforts demand that farmers be given extra time to learn about and consider the benefits of federal crop insurance," said Christiansen. "Crop insurance is especially important to farmers now in light of the termination of the disaster payments program." Christiansen said weather conditions around the country indicate in-dicate little risk in extending ex-tending the closing dates on these crops. "Extending -the closing dates gives farmers valuable extra time in considering the importance im-portance of the expanded crop insurance program," Christiansen said. In addition, Christiansen said expanded ex-panded farmer participation par-ticipation in the crop insurance program has also acted to reduce risk. "Insured crop acreage has doubled from 1980 to 1981," said Christiansen, "and is expected to double again for 1982." |
