The president must demonstrate an understanding un-derstanding of long-range planning and implementation im-plementation as it applies to SUSC. 9. The president must have exceptional facility in human relations with the ability to relate to all segments of the college and local community, and to be empathetic to the particular concerns of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. 10. The president must have the personal traits and physical stamina necessary for the most exacting of executive responsibilities. 11. The president should have good communication com-munication skills and experience in. public relations, the ability to be an energetic spokesman for the college. 12. The president must provide evidence of a personal life indicating possession of the social graces and skills necessary to represent the college in social situations. o The Southern Utah State College Presidential Search Committee recently released the criteria by which candidates for the job will be evaluated. Regent Jay Dee Harris, chairman of the committee com-mittee stated that to date more than 100 persons have either been nominated or applied for the SUSC presidency, ' which was vacated by Dr. Orville D. Carnahan, who was appointed president of Utah Technical College-Salt Lake by the State Board of Regents this summer. The selection criteria adopted by the search committee are: 1. The president must demonstrate scholarly competence and stature, including the earned doctorate and have excelled ex-celled in his or her fields 2. The president must have significant line administrative experience ex-perience that clearly demonstrates appropriate ap-propriate leadership capacity. 3. The president must have an educational philosophy consistent with the mission of Southern Utah State College and be able to provide leadership in promoting liberal and practical education for SUSC students. 4. The president should have successful teaching experience on the college level. 5. The president must have personal and professional integrity beyond question. 6. The president must display evidence or distinct promise of effective ef-fective relationships with governing boards and legislative bodies. 7. The president must be able to interpret successfully to the legislature, to alumni, and to private citizens and other agencies the financial needs of the |
