Last year, the group, which helps the Southern Utah State College gallery, had 117 members, and hopes to increase the membership mem-bership this year. The group has set Nov. 18 for its annual dinner and special preview of the SUSC art faculty's exhibition. L ocal grocer named to association Board Lin Orton of Lin's Thriftway has been named as a new member of the board of directors of the Utah Retail Grocers Association. He was elected during a recently concluded annual an-nual convention of the group in Salt Lake City. Don Borup, president of Carl and Don's Markets in Utah and Idaho, was elected chairman of the board; Robert Woodhead, The Store, Salt Lake City, was named first vice chairman; chair-man; Jack Shaum, Stop & Shop, Ogden, second vice chairman; Ken Macey, Macey's and Bobco's, Salt Lake City, treasurer; Gerald Day, Day's Markets, Heber City, immediate past chairman; and James V. Olsen, president and chief operating officer; and John Hutchinson, Hutchinson's Fine Foods, Salt Lake City, board member. Grocers, suppliers, manufacturers and food industry representatives from throughout Utah prepared for the future during convention seminars and sessions. The 1981 convention theme was "The Future Is Now." Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives Norman H. Bangerter opened the Convention with an address on how politics today will affect grocer's future. He encouraged active participation in politics on federal, state and local levels. Two representatives from the National Association of Retail Grocers in the United States (NARGUS) addressed ad-dressed the URGA membership. Jim Stoll, NARGUS Chairman, and president of Stoll's Foods in Ohio, discussed methods to increase store productivity.
