Show With elections drawing near, where are all the candidat es ? General municipal elections are just around the corner less than three weeks away as a matter of fact but what has happened to all the candidates? We heard from them all at the nominating conventions. con-ventions. They issued some very general statements on where they stand on all the issues, and then they seem to have disappeared. We have heard hardly a word from any of them. None of them have spoken out and become specific about their ideas. None of them have really campaigned. So, beginning this week, the Iron County Record challenges the candidates in all the communities of Iron County and the surrounding area to start a dialogue with the voters. Certainly, the citizens of the County shouldn't be expected to vote for those who will be making important decisions over , the next four years without knowing specifically how the candidates feel about some of those issues. Certainly, more information .must be available. For example, mayoral candidates in Cedar City, how do you feel about the proposal for a new jail and law enforcement complex? What do you propose to do about new City offices? How do you expect to finance both of them? City Council candidates in Parowan, how do you feel about future annexation in the City? How do you expect to handle future growth? The issues are going to come up during the next four years, so now is the time that residents get an idea about how you will vote then. There is still time to make this an intelligent election. There is still time to inform the voters. That responsibility lies fully upon the candidates at , this time. It is up to them to become visible again. 1 |
