Completes Training at Farragnt Reed Holmes Seaman 2C arrived ar-rived Sunday from Farragut, Idaho where he has just completed the second phase of his U. S. Naval training as signalman. He was accompanied by Mrs. Holmes who has spent the past two months with him at Farragut. He left Wednesday night for Bremerton, Washington from where he willl receive his next assignment. Mrs. Holmes, who was formerly Miss Fae Washburn,, will remain for the present in St. George. Seaman Holmes is a brother of Mrs. Josh Welch of St. George. fil lss Awarded Combat Badge Pfc Heber R. Staheli of Enterprise Enter-prise was recently awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge for "exempliary conduct" against the enemy in Bougainville. He is a scout in a veteran infantry regiment regi-ment and has been overseas for eight months. He has been on several patrols into enemy territory terri-tory and has fulfilled his assignments assign-ments in retarding the enemy. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Staheli of Enterprise. Sullivan Visits Flight Officer Clayton Sullivan arrived Friday in Leeds from Texas, where he has been training. train-ing. From here he will go on to his next assignment at Great Falls, Montana. - Pvt. S. Sorenson Visits Here Pvt. Stanley Sorenson arrived July Fourth for a surprise visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. WUlard Sorenson of St. George. He is in training at the Army an- corps school at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and will return to resume his studies next Tuesday. This is Pvt. Sorenson's first visit home in nine months. He says he enjoys his school, but is sure happy to be home even for a week. Pa Pa Home on Week End Pass Cpl. Lorraine McArthur had a week end pass home from Ogden to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Val McArthur and other relatives. He has recovered rapidly from his recent eye surgery and reports he is feeling tops. Pa Rsi pa Two Boys in Service Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pectol of Washington are rejoicing over good news from their two boys who are in military service. Their one son, Wanlass J. Pectol who is a Seaman 2C with the U. S. Navy has been on duty in the southwest Pacific and is now back on U. S. soil again. He called them this week from Los Angeles where he is visiting his brother, Lafe Pectol, and two married sisters The other son, Willard D. Pectol, who was recently inducted has been assigned to Army Air force training at Sheppard Field, Texas. Ri m Returns To Camp Grubcr Sgt. William B. Hansen returned re-turned to his p o t at Camp Gruber, Okla., SatUiJay morning after spending the week in St. George with Mrs. Hansen and their baby girl. This is his first visit home since the baby arrived. ar-rived. Naturally he expects to boast about the daughter when he gets back to the post. Pa IS las Located On Bougainville Island Mr. arid Mrs. Loren Reber of Santa Clara were happy to learn of the whereabouts of their son, Pvt. Clare Reber. In a very unique manner he has let them know that he is stationed at Bougainville. Pa pa pa Two Complete Submarine Basic Almost ready for active duty with the growing fleet of undersea under-sea fighters are two St. George boys, Lowell Keith Pendleton and Melvin D. Terry, both Seamen Second Class. Just recently they both completed basic training at the submarine school, submarine base, New London, Conn. As soon as they have their experience aboard a submarine they will be entitled to wear the twin dolphin insignia of that branch of the service. Seaman Pendleton is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Pendleton Pendle-ton and Seaman Terry is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jed M. Terry, both of St. George. Both boys graduated from Woodward high school and have since attended Dixie junior college. Both have been in the Navy since last October Oc-tober and received their recruit training at San Diego. Their admission ad-mission to submarine school was a result of their high scores in physical, mental and psychological psychologi-cal tests. Pa Pa Pa G. Kenworthy Advanced Mrs. Glenn Kenworthy called at the News office Wednesday to subscribe for the paper for her son, Glenn Kenworthy, who is stationed somewhere in the Central Cen-tral Pacific. Recently this St. George boy completed courses which advanced him to the rank of Aviation Electrician Mate, so of course his buddies had to celebrate. cele-brate. They took him down to the beach and gave him a series of repeated duckings. In spite of almost drowning him in their merriment. Glenn insists they are "a swell bunch of fellows", and he's glad to be with them. pa Pa Pa Cpl. A. Ence Visits Here 'Cpl. and Mrs. Afton Ence arrived ar-rived Saturday from Fort Worth, Texas, to visit relatives in St. George and Santa Clara. Cpl. Ence is in the medical detachment detach-ment of the Army air corps. |
