Show County Far Short In Fifth War Loan Drive East End of County Nearing Its Quota Reports Hirschi The time is shortening for completing com-pleting the Fifth War Loan drive, and Washington county is still far short of meeting its quota, say the central committee. Even though several of the towns have gone well over their allotments, the grand total up to Wednesday Wednes-day afternoon was $154,618 out of the $225,000, or 68.7 per cent. This means that 32.3 per cent must still be raised, indicates Albert Al-bert E. Miller, who is pushing the work along in the absence of Glenn E. Snow, central committee chairman. East End Nearing Its Quota Last week Claud Hirschi, reported re-ported $27,300 for the east end of the county, and adds for this week another $30,793, which should mean that the east end of the county is nearing its quota. However, there remains a total of nearly $75,000 to raise, the committee com-mittee points out, and this means there must be some real work done in the few days that remain. With the invasion moving forward, for-ward, this would be the very worst time for the people on the home front to relax, suggest those who are pushing the drive forward. To back down now could mean the loss of so much that has been gained, as well as an increased loss of life, which is far from the desire of any serious-minded serious-minded citizen they explain. If the boys over there can wade through water, blinding fire of bursting shells -and muck and mud and heaping dead, to disarm and suppress the enemies of freedom, the people at home should gladly dig down a little deeper in their earnings, buy a few more bonds, save a few more dollars in loans to liberty, and safeguard the gains the men are making on all of the battle fronts all over the world, say the bond drive chairmen. |
