Show Seen and Heard 'Round the Town By EDGAK South Ward First It seems that the Santa Clara ward M Hen basketball team wasn't the first from Dixie to play in the All-Church Tournament Tourna-ment in Salt Lake City. Lewis Peetol called the other day to tell me that the South ward went to the tournament in '32. This game was played at Ogden. That was before my arrival in Dixie . . . Those making the trip, according to Lewis were: Leland Brooks, Calvert Andrus, June Moody, Frank "Bringhurst, Andrew Lytle, James Bunting and Lewis. Iliff Andrus was their coach. Enterprise Enter-prise residents also remind me that they went to the tournament three years ago. I remembered their going, but I thought that they weren't in this stake at the time. My apologies to the Enterprise Enter-prise team. I do not have the names of those who made the jaunt available. First Authorization ' Capt. (Doctor) Virgil C. Snow, located in the Hawaiian Islands, is the first to get us an authorization authoriz-ation to send his paper overseas. He writes that he has met George Whipple, but says that George is the only one from this district that he has met. Our subscription' subscrip-tion' list shows that there were several others in that area when we had to stop sending the paper. Anyone who has a friend or relative rela-tive there might contact Mrs. Snow who is 1 staying here with her parents. I am sure the boys would like to contact each other if possible. Gold and Green Bali The Gold and Green Ball last Friday night was an interesting event. The program was well planned and executed. Without a doubt, the L. D. S .church has one of the best youth programs of any church in existence. Good wholesome entertainment combined com-bined with religious training makes an ideal combination and helps keep the Mormqn youth interested inter-ested in his religion. Victory Garden Prizes W. B. Mathis, president of the Bank of St. George, reports that the bank is going to sponsor a Victory Garden campaign with prizes being offered to those having hav-ing the gardens adjudged best under their rule's. These rules, (tentatively set up) include "the best garden", "the most productive produc-tive garden" and "the garden producing pro-ducing the most essential things for family use"' The gardens will also be judged on the basis of producing the most essential foods for both summer and winter use. Watch this paper for the complete program. ... It sounds interesting, but what chances have we amateurs against these experienced ex-perienced gardners around here? ... I guess most of us amateurs will be happy if our gardens just produce! A Barn Dance? What's a Bond Barn Dance? Well, it can be many things, but the Dixie Student Council say that it is going to be one swell dance. For further details I suggest sug-gest you "go see" . . . See ad in this issue of the News. Use Your Points Some of our local citizens are fortunate enough to have enough home-canned or bottled goods on hand to where they haven't used many of their points. These persons per-sons are urged to either use them themselves or iarn them in to their local merchant so that he can replenish his stocks. The amount of goods that he will be able to buy in the future is determined de-termined on the number of stamps that he collects. Swimming Pool Have you seen the city swimming swim-ming pool lately? If not you should go take a look at it. It is surely a beauty and will undoubtedly undoubt-edly give more pleasure to the kiddies and youth of this community com-munity than anything that has been built here in a long time. With our long summers, no place has needed a pool worse than we have. |
