Show Need for Greater Unity Stressed At Zion Park Stake Conference HURRICANE, Utah. A plea for greater unity of people at home while the world abroad is in turmoil, tur-moil, was stressed by the speakers at the Zion Park stake quarterly conference held in the stake chapel Sunday, Mar. 21st. Official visitors from Salt Lake City were Apostle Richard R. Lyman and Robert L. Judd, of the general Sunday school board, who was here in behalf of the Church Welfare Wel-fare program. An unusually large attendance was reported at each of the five sessions held during the day. Priesthood Meeting Missionary reports, talks on missionary activities, priesthood programs and advancements, and advice against use of alcoholic beverages took up the time of the 9:40 a.m., priesthood meeting.. This was preceded by an 8:30 a.m., Welfare meeting at which Robert L. Judd explained the standing of the church authorities regarding this set-up and what is expected of the people in carrying out this rapidly growing program. At the general session convening conven-ing at 10:50 a. m., speakers included in-cluded LaFel Iverson of the stake presidency, Robert L. Judd, Pres. Elmer Graff, Bishop Lorin D. Squire of LaVerkin, Ivan Barrett and Apostle Lyman. Counselor Iverson Iv-erson talked on the "Book of Mormon", and its message to humanity hu-manity on chosing the right course of life. Counselor Barrett discussed dis-cussed the ways of righteous living, liv-ing, and outlined what mankind can accomplish during his period of existence. Robert L. He told of this great contribution to present welfare work, and expressed expres-sed sorrow that so much equipment equip-ment designed for man's benefit was now used for destruction of life and property. Bishop Squires discussed the relative time required for the growth of a squash and an oak as a comparison of what man can accomplish in a lifetime. Apostle Lyman Talks Apostle Lyman stressed the Word of Wisdom, and talked of the boys in the U. S. service and the obligations of folks back home in making the world better for them on their return than that which followed the former world war. Besides congregational singing of "Did You Think To Pray", "We Thank Thee, O God, for A Prophet", Proph-et", "Oh, Ye Mountains High", and "America", Mr. and Mrs. Newell DeMille sang, "Light Divine", and Dixie Kleinman and Ruth Bring-hurst Bring-hurst sang a duet. The afternoon general session included community singing of, "Come, Come Ye Saints", "Now Let Us Rejoice", a ladies' chorus; string trio, and vocal solo, "In the Garden", by Whitford Gifford. Elmer Graff appealed to the various wards to set examples ex-amples to unity, to get behind the welfare and other programs and to help the stake presidency to make these church programs successful. suc-cessful. Robert L. Judd urged the people to raise crops and livestock, provide pro-vide for the families at home and for needs that may arise. Apostle Lyman appealed to all members to do missionary work daily, saying, say-ing, "Those of you who want the light of Heaven to shine in your hearts, develop the missionary spirit. Study the Scriptures and be able to discuss the gospel with those you contact. Embark in the service of God and see that you serve him with all your hearts". Evening Meeting The Sunday evening meeting was conducted by the M. I. A. Music numbers included piano and organ duet, Donna Sandberg and Dorothy Squire; vocal solo, "I Needed God", Lillian Workman; violin solo, G w y n n Bradshaw; ladies' chorus, "Beside Still Waters"; Wa-ters"; solo, "I Heard A Forest Praying", Ivan Barrett; "True To the Faith", congregation. Mrs. Lillian Christensen gave the reading, "Leah", and Mrs. Walter Brooks presented the theme, "Ramparts W e Watch", from the viewpoint of home, of church and country. Robert L. Judd enlarged on the theme saying a great task can thus be done nobly. Apostle Lyman Ly-man concluded the service with a short talk on correct ethics in courtship and marriage. |
