Show FRANK EARL COX Frank Earl Cox Completes Submarine Training Frank Earl Cox, 23, seaman second sec-ond class, son of Frank L. Cox, has completed basic training at the Submarine school, Submarine Base, New London, Conn., for duty with our growing fleet of under-seas under-seas fighters. Seaman Cox will be entitled to wear the twin dolphin insignia of the submarine service after further fur-ther experience aboard a submarine submar-ine during which he must demonstrate demon-strate to his commanding officer that he is fully qualified to carry out the duties of his rate. The insignia in-signia is regarded as a mark of distinction throughout the Navy. Earl Cox was graduated from Dixie high school in May 1939, winning letters there in basketball basket-ball and football. He joined the navy a year ago and received initial in-itial training at Long Beach, Calif., "I'm interested in learning about diesel operation," he said, "which is why I chose submarine duty, aside from better advancement and extra pay it offers." ' The Submarine school ,the only one of its kind in the Navy, is attended by a picked group of men who must pass special physical, physi-cal, mental and psychological tests. |
