Show Mrs. Emmaline J. Cottam Celebrates 80th Birthday Receiving congratulations Sunday from her many friends and relatives rela-tives was Mrs. Emmaline Jarvis Cottam, who was celebrating her 80th birthday anniversary. Born in St. George Mar. 21, 1863, less than two years after the pioneers arrived in the St. George valley, she grew up during dur-ing the most difficult years of the Dixie cotton mission, receiving little schooling compared with that of today, but was trained by her parents to meet each day's experience ex-perience with courage and hopefulness. hope-fulness. Her parents, George and Ann Prior Jarvis. She married Thomas P. Cottam in the St. George Temple, Jan. 26, 1882, and during his 25 years as member of the St. George stake presidency, and for several years as president of the St. George Temple, it was often their privilege, privi-lege, to entertain high authorities of the church in ; their spacious home which still stands. She has also been active religiously, serving serv-ing many years in the ward Relief Society presidency and in the stake Relief Society board. Her living sons and daughters include: Thomas Cottam of Lo-gandale, Lo-gandale, Nev., Mrs. Moroni Mc-Arthur Mc-Arthur and Arthur Cottam of St. George; Moroni Cottam, Provo; Dr. Walter P. Cottam and Mrs. Mark Bleak, Salt Lake City; Dr. Clarence Cottam, Evanston, 111.; and Mrs. Ellis Jones, Veyo. She has one living sister, 94-year-old Ann C. J. Milne of Murray; and one brother, Heber Jarvis, aged 82, of Mesa, Ariz.; also 43 grandchildren grand-children and 39 great-grandchildren. |
