Show Dixie College News Paul Crosby, Elmer Pickett and Banard Hafen, former Dixie students, stu-dents, and now in military training train-ing at San Luis Obispo, have been college visitors this week. D. J. C. State Registrars' Meeting The annual meeting of the State Registrars of institutions of higher learning will be held in St. George on Saturday of this week. Principal speakers will be Pres. Glenn E. Snow, Registrar John E. Hayes of the B. Y. U., and Registrar Reg-istrar W. H. Bell of the Utah State Agricultural college. Problems concerning the work of the college registrars will be discussed with the experiences of the different workers being taken advantage of. Greater, uniformity and more efficiency is the result of these annual meetings. Mathew M. Bentley will represent repre-sent the local college. D. J. C. Future Teachers Meet "Education and Freedom" was the subject discussed by Rodney A. Ashby at the monthly meeting of the Future Teachers Monday night. He pointed out that freedom is a relative term, very much dependent de-pendent on the environment. The purpose of education, he said, is to improve that environment and to make freedom more permanent and stable. Pres. Joseph Black was in charge of the meeting. D. J. C. All Dixie college juniors are taking tak-ing English placement tests this week. The purpose of the tests is to help plan the English program pro-gram to meet the varying needs of the students. D. J. C. The college will participate with the American Legion in the celebration. cele-bration. A large number of students stu-dents have entered the oratorical contest, the finals of which are to be held during the morning program. The finalists will be selected se-lected tomorrow. The various classes will also enter floats in the parade. D.J.C. Members of the Omega Delta, dramatic fraternity, will go to Cedar City this week-end to witness wit-ness the B. A. C. production, written writ-ten and directed by Mr. Redford of that institution. D. J. C. Receive Shorthand Awards Five shorthand students at the college have received speed certificates certifi-cates from the Gregg board of examiners ex-aminers for writing shorthand at 100 words per minute and accurately accur-ately transcribing their notes. Those who received the awards are: Thelma Blake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milo Blake; Caroline Stucki, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Stucki; Barbara Bryner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Bryner; Ha Holt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Holt; and Arlo Hafen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Hafen of Santa Clara. D. J. C. The customs of the people of Persia (Iran) were interestingly described to the college students Wednesday morning by Pres. Franklin S. Harris of the Brigham Young university. D. J. C. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Andelin and Miss Dorothy Dawn were also guests of the college and favored the students with several musical numbers. |
