Show Garth B. Cottam Awarded Wings At Army Air School Garth B. Cottam, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Cottam of Veyo, was graduated as a member of the largest graduating class at Luke field, the United States Army Corps' advanced training school on Oct. 31. There were 123 men in the class more than the total of two previous classes. Cadet Cottam Cot-tam received his Second Lieutenant's Lieuten-ant's commission. The graduation ceremonies marked mark-ed the end of one of the most difficult training periods required for any occupation. Cadet Cot-tam's Cot-tam's first hurdle was the very stringent physical examination required re-quired for admittance. After finishing preliminary and basic school training he went to Luke field, which is located five miles northwest of Phoenix, Ariz., with 140 hours of flying time and a well-balanced knowledge of ground school subjects. At Luke field his flying instruction was continued in planes of higher horsepower than those used in the lower classes with specialization in instrument and radio beam flying, link training and long crosscountry cross-country flights, both day and night. Lieutenant Cottam at the present pres-ent time is visiting his parents prior to continuing his training. |
