Show Championship Play-off Game Between Cedar And Hurricane High Teams To Be Played Here Friday The football headliner this week is the championship playoff between be-tween Cedar City and Hurricane Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the local field: The Hurricane six-man team defeated de-feated Cedar City 36-26 at Cedar City last Friday to tie for top honors in the league, each team winning five and losing one of the regularly scheduled games. Cedar was in the lead until the waning minutes of the game when Hurricane Hur-ricane showed its real scoring power. High Whips Farowan Dixie high defeated Parowan on the local field Friday 2S-6. after trailing the first half 0-6. This victory' gave Dixie a tie for third place in the league standings, with four victories against two defeats. Beaver, who triumphed over Hinckley 34-13, is the team to tie the Flyers. The badly crippled college team bowed to B. A. C. at Cedar City last Saturday 33-0. The Flyers held the Aggies for the first quarter quar-ter only, after which they could not stop the B. A. C. scoring spree. I The locals fought gallantly, but the odds were against them. With only 16 men on the squad, the league games serve as the only J scrimmage practice the boys get, and lack of suitable substitutes j lis a grave handicap. Added to i ! this was the fact that Mezzano : was badly crippled for the game, ! and others had minor injuries. Not A League Game The game did not count in the league standings, the conference game not being played until November No-vember 29. It is hoped the boys will be in better shape by that time. The Flyers rest this week, the next game being on the local field with Westminster on Nov. 15. These two teams should be very evenly matched, both having similar difficulties. Each team has already defeated Snow 6-0. Mesa college cinched the league championship last Friday when they won from Weber at Grand Junction 7-6. This was Mesa's fourth straight win. |
