Show Large Crowd Attends LD.S. Welfare Conference Here On Sat. One of the largest assemblies ever to attend the Virgin River Regional Reg-ional L. D. S. Welfare conference was noted by Pres. Harold S. Snow at the sessions held Saturday, Satur-day, Nov. 1. Attending officially from Salt Lake City was Apostle Harold B. Lee who heads the program, pro-gram, R o s c o e W. Eardley, in charge of storage and housing facilities, fa-cilities, Elias S. Woodruff, general gen-eral work director, C. Arvel Stott, agricultural director, and Marion G. Romney, assistant manager. Opening the day's program was the 9 a. m., session in the St. George Temple which concluded in time for the visitors from the eight stakes of the district to attend at-tend the business meeting at the stake Tabernacle at 1 p. m. The stakes included are Beaver, Pan-guitch, Pan-guitch, Parowan, Kanab, Z i o n Park and St. George, in Utah, and the Moapa and Uvada staakes of Nevada. These meetings covered a survey of the projects in the various stakes at the present time along with checking up on budget assignments for 1941 and a detailed de-tailed presentation of the new, increased more varied budget assignments as-signments for 1942. The session at 3 p. m., open to the public brought an increased attendance with Apostle Harold B. Lee as the principal speaker. He told of the possibilties of the Welfare program giving a recent experience in meeting the flood disaster in Arizona, of how the people deprived of their homes and belongings through the floods were temporarily provided for, one stake from individual cash contributions collecting $1400 overnight. over-night. He told also of the spirit of independence of the flood victims vic-tims who asked only .for temporary tempor-ary assistance and a chance to build up again. |
