Show NEWS OF THE COUNTY SEAT The home of Miss Tillie Winsor was the scene Monday evening of the March social affair of the Elementary Ele-mentary and Woodward high school teachers. Among those from St. George who attended the Elaine Brad-shaw Brad-shaw funeral services in Hurricane Hurri-cane Tuesday afternoon were Pres. Glenn E. Snow of the Dixie junior college; Pres. Harold S. Snow, Bishop Arthur Cottam, M e 1 b a Baker, Annie M. Webb, Leland Lamoreaux, Mary Lu Schmutz, Marion Bowler, Mr. and Mrs. Woodruff Cannon and Mrs. Chas. B. Petty. Mrs. J. J. Phoenix honored her husband Tuesday evening with a birthday anniversary dinner and party. St. Patrick's day ideas were used in decorations, with honors in Bridge going to Mrs. B. G. Milne. The Misses Lucy and Minnie Hammond who have been employed em-ployed in St. George for the past several months left Monday for Salt Lake City. Mrs. Joseph W. Judd entertained enter-tained a small group of women friends at Bridge Friday afternoon and on Saturday evening joined with Mr. Judd in entertaining their Bridge club. "Son of Fury" the story of Benjamin Blake at the Wadsworth Theatre, Saturday, Sunday, Monday Mon-day and Tuesday. ml9c. Dr. and Mrs. M. O. Hutchings spent the week end in Beaver. Hostesses to the Lady Lions last Thursday evening were Mrs. H. C. Thomas, Mrs. O. D. Lombardi and Mrs. Val McArthur. Violets and narcissus combined the club colors for table decorations. Mrs. Rodney Rod-ney Ashby was appointed state chairman for the coming Lions convention and Mary M. Phoenix, Bridge chairman. Mrs. Phoenix reviewed De Maurier's "French Creek", during the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Leavitt and children from Alamo, Nev., and Dudley Leavitt of Boulder City, visited relatives in St. George over the week end, accompanied ac-companied by Luane Wood, also of Boulder City. Miss Ruth Hafen entertained the A: D. Q. club at her home Monday evening, it being her birthday anniversary. an-niversary. Nine club members and nine guests made up the party. Sewing, games, gifts and refreshments refresh-ments furnished entertainment. The daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Chris Egnew Monday is dis-tinguishly dis-tinguishly marked in being not only the first child of the couple, but the first grandchild and the first great-grandchild in the family fam-ily of either parent. Mrs. Afton Knight of Bunker-ville Bunker-ville underwent surgery, Mar. 17. Mrs. Anthon Madsen left Saturday Sat-urday morning for Salt Lake City to join her husband who has employment em-ployment there. They will reside in Salt Lake City for the present. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bennett, brother and sister-in-law of William Wil-liam Bennett, are here visiting Mr. Bennett and his family. The Bennett's are from Evanston, Wyo. Kent Reber, Ronald McArthur, Leon Watson and Stafford Snow left Wednesday to attend the basketball bas-ketball tournament in Salt Lake City. Medical patients at the local hopsital over the week include Tommy Bounarte, burns; Mrs. Arthur Corloy. Dr. P. C. Herzer and Henry Robelitz of Los Angeles An-geles injured at Mesquite in a car accident; Alice B. Robinson of Veyo; Joe Mezzano, injured when dragged by a horse, and Joseph Hammond of Ursine, Nev. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sevy motored mo-tored down from Richfield Saturday, Satur-day, returning Sunday and taking with them as far as Cedar City, their grandmother. Mrs. R. C. Knoll, of Newcastle, who has boon visiting in St. George for several weeks and will return later. Charles Pickett returned Saturday Satur-day from Salt Lake City for an oxtondod vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cox and Mrs. Ambrose Cannon attended the Ray Esplin funeral in Ordor-ville. Ordor-ville. Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. LoGrande Spils-bury Spils-bury wore Si. George visitors on '"day. Mrs. Charles Barnum visited over the week end in Mosquito, with her mother, Mrs. James Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pickett returned re-turned Saturday from Los Angeles, An-geles, where they visited three days with their son, Elmer, who left Friday for special officers' training in Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Madsen left Saturday for Salt Lake City on business and to visit relatives. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Al-bert Anderson celebrated with a dinner Sunday, the birthday anniversary anni-versary of their daughter, Fae Garda, who was home over the week end from the B. Y. U. Mr. Anderson and their son, Harold, motored up from Las Vegas for the event, and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Herb-ert Christensen and sons came down from Springdale. Relatives from out of town over Sunday to attend the funeral of Wellington F. Gates were: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gates and sons, of Hurricane; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Gates of Palo Alto, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Tobler and children from Enterprise; Mrs. Moroni Snow, Mrs. Emma Lucy Gates Bowen and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Y. Gates, all of Salt Lake City. The Salt Lake visitors returned Monday, the others leaving leav-ing for their homes Sunday evening. eve-ning. Mrs. Rosena Blake returned last Thursday from a four-day visit in Kanarra with her daughter, Mrs. Ivan Davies, whom she accompanied accom-panied home the Monday previous. Visitors Thursday, March 12th, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Gilbert Gil-bert Hiatt, were their daughter, Helen Crawford and small daughter, daugh-ter, and niece, Mrs. G. Orton and son, all of Cedar City, who were here to celebrate Mrs. Hiatt's birthday anniversary. F. Erickson of Elmo, Emery county, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Winslow Farr Walker left Friday for their home in Rexburg, Ida., after spending the winter in St. George. Mr. Walker is interested in being there to get his garden going as early as possible. Mrs. Howard Arns was hostess Saturday afternoon, March 14th, to the members of the Readers' Round Table, entertaining 14 members and three guests. The latter included Mrs. Arns' mother, Mrs. Elfreda Thompson, Mrs. Irwin Ir-win Johnson and Mrs. Ann Miles Fuller reviewed Salem Bader's dramatic novel, "Brothers Under the Skin", after which refreshments refresh-ments were served. Arriving in St. George Saturday for a visit with friends is Mrs. Jay Tolman, former girls' physical education teacher of the Dixie college, who, with her husband, Jay Tolman have spent the past year in San Francisco, where Mr. Tolman, also formerly of the Dixie college faculty, is employed in the training camp. A recent transfer to Long Beach, gave Mrs. Tolman Tol-man opportunity for her visit in southern Utah's Dixie. |
