Show Dixie College News Army officials have asked local airport officials for the use of facilities fa-cilities for the training of additional addi-tional Army trainees, according to Andy Anderson, Dixie flight instructor. in-structor. Such trainees as may be brought in will get their training train-ing under the Dixie college set-up. D. J.C. Spring CPT Underway The quota of ten men for the spring training course under the CPT is now complete and training has beun. It was necessary, however, according ac-cording to M. J. Miles, ground instructor, in-structor, to bring in three men from Los Angeles to complete the quota. These men are John Joseph New, Richard Lovell and Thomas Bournardi. The local men enrolled are: William Robert Whitehead, Lynn J. Asay, Junior Ray Gardner, Orlo Hall, Floyd Parry, Ammon Doyle Jolley and Ben Hopkins McMullln. D. J. C. The evening class in typing is proving quite popular. It is given under the direction of Miss Ruth Falck. A class in shorthand, with Edward Christensen as instructor, will be given if there is sufficient demand. D. J. C. Mr. and Mrs. Royden Braith-waite Braith-waite are the parents of a second son, the new arrival having been born Monday. D. J. C. Junior Prom Theme The theme for the Junior Prom, to be held on April 17, has been announced by Beman Snow, chairman chair-man of the publicity committee. It is named "Northern Brilliance", and an attempt will made to portray por-tray the beauty of the aurora borealis, or northern lights. Ralph Huntsman is directing the art scheme. Wayne Prince is general chairman chair-man of the Prom. D. J. C. Senior Hop The Senior Hop, which is to be held Friday night in the Recreation Recre-ation hall, is to be informal, according ac-cording to Roma Nisson, senior class president. Emphasis will be placed on a good time, rather than on decorations decor-ations or other elaborate background, back-ground, Miss Nisson states. Money taken in at the dance will be used to buy defense stamps, so that those attending can bo patriotic while enjoying themselves, she emphasizes. The committee in charge, besides be-sides Miss Nisson, class president, are: Quinn Chamberlain, Ruth Hafen and Norman Hunt. They are all 'class officers. The Lambda Delta Sigmas are holding a club meeting this afternoon, after-noon, with the theme, "Smile Awhile", being featured. D. J. C. Sheet Metal Graduates Keith Ross, Carl Adams and Daniel Kleinman have completed the sheet metal course at the college. col-lege. Mr. Ross left for the Pacific Coast, where he will work in an aircraft factory. Enrolment in this work is now diminishing. The work will be discontinued soon unless more people come in. D. J. C. C. B. Cooley, state supervisor of educational defense projects, visited vis-ited the Dixie college last Friday. Mr. Cooley is on a leave of absence ab-sence from the B. A. C, where he is on the faculty of vocational education. ed-ucation. D.J.C. Faculty Women's Club Meets The Faculty Women's club of the Dixie college is meeting this afternoon with the faculty women of the elementary school and of the Woodward high school, with the college women as hostesses. A program of music and Rook will be enjoyed. On the entertaining committee are Mrs. Ada Neilson, Mrs. Laura Snow, Mrs. Emily Watts (in absentia), ab-sentia), and Miss Margaret Jones. The meeting is being held in the Cannon building. D. J. C. 1 Faculty "Irish" Party The college faculty held an Irish party Monday evening in the Science building. A plate lunch was served, with B. Glen Smith acting as master of ceremonies. All participated in the program, responding to call by completing a verse of Irish fortune for-tune telling, the first line being given as a cue. Miscellaneous games followed the luncheon. Serving on the committee with Mr. Smith were Mrs. McKay Neilson, Neil-son, Earl J. Bleak, Stanley Watts, and Royden Braithwaite. |
