Show Annual Fish and Game Meet Termed One of Best In Group's History "One of the most interesting programs pro-grams to ever be presented at a Washington County Wild Life Federation Fed-eration meeting," was the comment com-ment of those who attended this annual meeting held in the Woodward Wood-ward high gym last Saturday night. The annual election was dispensed with and last year's board put in by acclamation. Speakers on the program included in-cluded Jay D. Laster, grazier aid, Rass Gardner, ' Commissioner Newell New-ell R. Frei and Forest Supervisor Blaine Betensen. Gives Brief History Mr. Laster gave a brief history of the grazing service and told of its work in conjunction with that of stockmen and game officials. of-ficials. He stated that a considerable consider-able part of state grazing land was grazed by both stock and game and that their problem was to maintain the correct balance. . Mr. Gardner gave a very complete com-plete and interesting report of the survey which has recently been (Continued on page eight) Wild Life Meet (Continued from first page) completed by forest and game officials of-ficials on the Dixie forest. He stated that the county indicated a reduction of the herd, but that since there was one more day to ride at the time he reported, the final county was not available. The stimated number without the final day's count) was given as 12,300. He said that the deer were well distributed over the range. That, as a whole, they were in good condition and that there were still some areas that were badly over-grazed, but that the range as a whole was a little improved. "Reports from the various checking check-ing groups indicate that there were nearly 7,00 deer taken in the hunt last year. This included those killed by hunters and those left to die," stated Mr. Frei. He also reoprted on the work of the state game commission and of the possibilities pos-sibilities of securing a game refuge in this county. He said that the Enterprise reservoir project was up to the governor for his signature, signa-ture, having been okehed otherwise. other-wise. Correct Count MaIe i Satisfaction was expressed . by Mr. Betensen in the correctness of the counts made in recent surveys. He took this year's count, added to it the number killed in the hunt and the number estimated 'killed by predatory animals to show that this would bring the total up to thafcyof the estimated number on the ifahge last year. Those present went on record of opening the Ivins reservoir for fishing this year. It was indicated indi-cated that the fish were large enough now and -that there was always the danger of the water having to be drawn off in this reservoir, thus causing the death of the fish. Opening dates are to be announced later..
