Show Dixie College Basketeers Win Second Place In Ogden Tournament The Dixie college Flyers concluded con-cluded the basketball season by taking second place in the Utah-Colorado Utah-Colorado junior college tournament tourna-ment in Ogden last week. They were downed by the Weber college col-lege team 56-40 Saturday night in the final game of the tourney. The Flyers got off to a good start, leading near the close of the second period 21-15. At this point their defense went haywire, and it was Weber's game from then on out. Weber led at the half 30-26. Played Outstanding Ball Coach Watts' men played outstanding out-standing ball on Friday to down the champion Mesa Mavericks 45-40. This game was a see-saw affair, with the results being in doubt until the final gun. The B. A. C. team won third in the tourney by virtue of their successful battle against Mesa on Saturday. The Aggies won this one 42-40. Weber had defeated the Cedar men on Friday 59-52. The Dixie team was awarded a basketball as their second-place trophy. He had previously placed on the all-conference all-conference team. The tourney team was selected by participating coaches and officials and by the three senior college coaches. Other members of the tourney team were: Jorgenson, B. A. C, forward; Misaka, Weber, forward; Hancey, center; and Vogeley, Mesa, guard. Misaka was selected as the outstanding player of the tourney. At a meeting of coaches and faculty representatives held during dur-ing the time of the tourney, a tentative basketball and a tentative tenta-tive football schedule was worked out for next year. A decision was reached to hold the junior college conference track meet in Logan on May 9th. High Flyers Last Game The high school Flyers laid away their suits Saturday night after playing a post-season game with Hurricane at Hurricane on Friday night. The Typhoons won this one 53-44. Money taken in at the game will be utilized to pay for the new suits purchased for the Typhoons. Pres. Glenn E. Snow and B. Glen Smith acted as co-coaches for the game in the absence of Lee Hafen, who was out of town on business. |
