Show LAW GOVERNING BRAND INSPECTION Section 191, laws of Utah, with regard re-gard to brand inspection and slaugh- i tering of cattle is printed for the in- formation of those interested. I The information is sent out by the state board of agriculture which has broad general powers under the provisions pro-visions of the law. ' 191. "Any butcher, owner, manager, j or employee of any slaughterhouse. : packing company or corporation, copartnership, co-partnership, association, person or j persons, slaughtering any cattle, shall, before slaughtering meat animals, have same inspected by a brand inspector in-spector of the state board of agriculture agricul-ture and certificate of inspection issued. An inspection fee of ten cents per head shall be collected therefor; ! provided the requirements of this chapter shall not apply to cattle previously prev-iously inspected for brands and accompanied ac-companied by an inspection certificate. Every person, or persons, not regularly engaged in the butcher, slaughterhouse slaughter-house or packing business, or regularly regular-ly engaged in slaughtering animals for sale, may slaughter any meat animal without having brand inspection and sell the hide, and shall furnish to the buyer of such hide or hides with a bill of sale rendered in. dulicate, one copy to be retained by the seller and produced upon demand of any person, showing kind, age, weight and brands thereon, giving position of same; and it shall be the duty of said buyer to have all hides in his possession inspected in-spected by a brand inspector of the board before their removal from the county in which animals were slaughtered. slaugh-tered. The inspection fee of ten cents for each hide will be collected and inspection in-spection certificate issued by said inspector. in-spector. It shall be a' misdemeanor for any person, firm or corporation having purchased hides, to have in his or their possession any hide not accompanied ac-companied by a bill of sale or brand inspection certificate and to remove any hide from the county wherein the same are purchased without having in his possession a brand inspection certificate. It shall be unlawful for any person to mutilate, alter or deface any brand or other mark by which any cattle, horses or mules, or the hide of any cattle may be indentified, or to destroy or conceal any hide for the purpose of preventing the discovery of the identity of any such animal." Under the broad, general powers given by law to the state board of agriculture governing brand inspec tion, and in particular under the provisions pro-visions of above Section 191. the board has adopted a regulation which provides pro-vides as follows: "Every person, firm or corporation slaughtering any animal ani-mal where it is impossible or impracticable impracti-cable for said animal or animals to be inspected by brand inspector before same are slaughtered, shall keep a record of all cattle so slaughtered, setting set-ting forth the name of the person or persons from whom said animals were purchased, a description of said animals, ani-mals, showing brands, ear marks, color, age. weight, sex, etc.. and other information infor-mation that would be of assistance in the identification of said animals, which records shall be open to the inspection in-spection of the public. It shall be the duty of every person, firm or corporation corpora-tion so slaughtering uninspected animals ani-mals to immedately notify the local brand inspector of any animals so slaughtered that have not previously been insepcted. so that the hides of such animals may be inspected by him while green. It shall be the duty of every butcher, market, hotel keeper, or other purchaser of veal calves or other meat animals, whether alive or dressed, dress-ed, to take and keep bills of sale therefor there-for from the seller; and in addition to make and keep a record of all calves or either meat animals so purchased setting forth the date of purchase, name of the person or persons from whom purchased, the number, sex, color, breed, brands and earmarks, if any, and any and all other means of identification, which, record shall be open to the inspection of the public." |
