Show Increase Shown in Auto Deaths During Last Year Automobile fatalities in the United States last year increased more than 1,500 over 192G, the National Safety council estimates from partial reports J of cities and states. In 1926 deaths charged to automobiles automo-biles aggregated 23,500. Of the nation's eight leading cities four, Philadelphia, Cleveland, St. Louis and Boston, reported fewer deaths. Chicago, Detroit and Los Angeles show increases. New York is not mentioned in the council's incomplete survey. Massachusetts again reports a reduction re-duction over the 1926 record. All of the cities in that state over 100,000 population with the exception of Cambridge, Cam-bridge, reported decreases. Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island and Texas were among states showing increases ii: deaths. .In New York the death list jumped from 1,155 in 1926 to 2,422 last year. |
