Show WILL ESTABLISH NIGHTAIR LINE Department of Commerce Men Gathering Data and Selecting Sites for Landing Fields A. H. Wait and G. C. Miller of the airways division of the United States department of commerce spent part of Friday and all of last Saturday in St. George conferring with local citizens in regard to the establishment of a landing field here. The aim of the department of commerce is to start night flying over this route as soon as suitable fields can be secured and equipped. Several sites were looked over by the airways men and pictures were taken. According to the representatives practically all towns on the route from Salt Lake to Las Vegas have suitable landings ready for equipping by the government, and it is desired that St. George locate a field at once. According to plans submitted the government gov-ernment will equip and maintain the field if the city will obtain title to sufficient land for a field that will meet government specifications, and in turn lease this land to the govern-rrlent. govern-rrlent. Government specifications call for a field every thirty miles where pos-ible. with large beacons and smaller guiding lights along the course between fields. The entire construction construc-tion and maintaining will be done by the government. A long range 24-inch searchlight of two and half million candle power will be located on the West mountain "ut of St. George, near the old Mormon emigrant trail. Representatives returned re-turned to St. George yesterday and will secure horses and spend two days in the West mountain district getting the lay of the land and locating locat-ing the proner point at which to put up the beacon. Small acetylene lights will be placed on the butte east of town or on some prominent rise near where the landing field is established.
