Leaders in the move-t move-t to bring about the nomination "f Governor Alfred E. Smith of New U for president declared, however, th3t practically every Utah delgate avors Smith. Sixteen delegates, each with onc-fcalf onc-fcalf vote, and four alternates, were chosen. This will mean that sixteen pen and women from Utah will have seats at the Houston convention, although al-though this state will have only eight votes. James H. Moyle, present Utah representative rep-resentative in the Democratic national committee, was reelected by acclamation, acclama-tion, William R. Wallace having withdrawn with-drawn and no other candidate having Deen placed in nomination. It looked for a time as though John G. M. Barnes of Kaysville would enter the contest, but he also finally decided not to oppose Mr. Moyle. Mrs. Inez Knight Allen of Provo was elected national committee woman, defeating Mrs. Weston Vernon, Utah's present woman representative in the national committee. The sixteen delegates are: Senator William H. King and William W. Ray, who were chosen by acclamation, and Mrs. William Osborne of Cedar City, Mrs. John J. Galligan and Mrs. Ernest S. Holmes of Salt Lake, S. W. Golding of Price, chairman of the Carbon county Democratic committee; Senator Joseph Chez of Ogden, vice chairman of the Western States Smith-for-President association; J. R. Nichelson, Orman W. Erwing, William J. Halloran, Wilson McCarthy, Delbert M. Draper, chairman of the state committee com-mittee of Salt Lake; John P. Tolton of Beaver, member of the state legislature; legisla-ture; J. William Robinson of Provo, Stuart P. Dobbs of Ogden, Federick P. Champ of Logan. The four alternates are R. C. Clark of Grand county, Ashby Snow, who was candidate for the United States senate two years , ago against Senator Reed Smoot; J. T. McConnell of Unitah county, and Mrs. Grover C. Rich of J' Salt Lake. |
