They have grown from a very small beginning in 1960 into what is now one of the most looked forward to sale event of the year in Vernal. The sales are possible by donations from generous persons who contribute to the rummage sale. Last year the sale was reported to be a big success, providing funds for radios, mountain climbing equipment and scuba equipment. This year the Uintah Unit will host the 1980 Utah State Search and Rescue Convention in Vernal. About 500 members and families are planned to participate in the three-day event Aug. 7-9. The Uintah Unit was started many years ago by Sheriff Norman Fletcher. Its membership is held to a maximum of 30 and there is always a waiting list, reported Sheriff Arden Stewart. "I would again like to state how proud I am of our Uintah County Sheriff's Search and Rescue," said Sheriff Stewart.
