Show First aid classes offered by Red Cross Plans to offer Red Cross First Aid instruction in-struction to the public were nearly completed com-pleted at a meeting of Red Cross First Aid instructors at the Seven Eleven Cafe on Friday, Jan. 25. Merlin Walker, first aid chairman Uintah County Red Cross was in charge of the meeting. Francis Lenox, Uintah County Red Cross chairman announced that Merlin Walker is scheduled to attend at-tend training sessions Feb. 29 and March 1 in Salt Lake City that will qualify him to be Instructor Trainer. Walker will be in a position to train a larger staff of instructors in the County to relieve the current shortage of first aid instructors. Lenox reviewed the activities of the Red Cross since it was originated in 1881; he reported that the Red Cross has been active in local disasters and emergencies as well as national and world wide emergencies in past years. He stated that a number of Red Cross programs are active in the county at present, including the Military with Frank Thompson as chairman; the Blood Program, Neil Deets, chairman, First Aid Classes and Home Nursing Classes under the direction of Marilyn Thacker, chairman; Water Safety and First Aid, Merlin Walker as chairman. All the work is these programs is by volunteer workers. Merlin Walker recognized the in structors who are eligible to receive certificates for service. Russell Case, employee of Dinosaur National Monument Monu-ment has served 500 hours in first aid instruction, Gene Gurr with Moon Lake Electric has 208 hours service, Merlin Walker with 756 hours service and Marilyn Thacker with 500 hours. Some of the classes conducted by instructors are sponsored by their employers as on the job training. Other instructors present who have considerable hours to their credit include in-clude Sam Weimer, with Halliburton Company, Joan Weimer, with Welex, Doyle Sowers, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Af-fairs, DeAnn Mobley, Halliburton Services Ser-vices and Rex Hanberg, who is First Aid Instructor with Stauffer Chemical Company. Marilyn Thacker, volunteer instructor and Gene Wallace were not present. LaVon Wall, publicity chairman chair-man was present. Walker again emphasized the First Aid Classes being planned. He stated the classes are scheduled for the last week in February in the Vernal Junior High School and all people interested should call early and get enrolled. He stated that this is a good opportunity for businesses and industry to get employees enrolled and qualified to be instructors under the OSHA regulations. regula-tions.
