Show Uintah High students compete in menu contest The Health and Foods classes at Uintah Uin-tah High School have worked in conjunction con-junction with the cafeteria, in their units, to become more aware of better nutrition and menu planning. Janice Massey, cafeteria manager, announced this week that each class held a menu contest going by the type A meal regulations required by the state and served at the school. Winners in the Health Class unit taught by coach Rick Phillips were: Kevin Rhodes, Daniel Troester, Robert Beaslin, Richard Rotsler, Stewart Thomas, and Dean Krei. Each menu was researched and made complete with vitamins, protein, bread and milk. This group showed great imagination and thought. Coach Phillips states, "The kids at e becoming more nutrition conscious in sports as well as the classroom." They also made posters for the cafeteria walls, using good nutrition and bad examples as guidelines. Foods Class winners, under the direction direc-tion of Miss Jaralee Hokanson, were: Debbie Snow, Becky Call, Teina Neilson and Yvonne Cooper. Six students are working in the cafeteria becoming more aware of quantity food preparation and serving. This is a regular class and they receive credit for it. Miss Hokanson said, "This way the kids can learn by experience and have a better understanding of taste, color, portion control, cleanliness and nutrition value. Boys and girls are in the class. Both teachers plan to use this program pro-gram in their classes this semester. |
