Verne I cagers boml San Kavaei, 81-43 Vernal's Panthers entered the second round of the Vernal Invitational in grand style as they bombed San Rafael, 81 to 43, in the first round, Friday. The Panthers leaped out to a 23 to 6 lead in the first quarter. The top scorers for Vernal in the first quarter were Clark Emery and Brian McNamara with six counters on three field goals. The Panthers put in 16 points and San Rafael tossed in ten points to make the score at the end of the second quarter. Vernal, 39 and San Rafael, 16. San Rafael fired in 12 points, but Vernal blew the game wide open with 21 points in the third quarter for a 60 to 28 lead. The Panthers flipped in 21 points in the fourth quarter to make the final score: Vernal, 81 and San Rafael, 43. Vernal had five cagers in double figures. Brian McNamara popped in 14 points, and Kary' Hamilton put in 13 points. Mike Weldon tossed in 12 points, and Clark Emery scored 11 counters. Jeff Drollinger tossed in 10 points.
